I have been writing online since I was 17 years old.

2007

I was one of the highest ranked World of Warcraft players in North America with one of the first e-famous gaming blogs on the Internet. By the time I graduated high school, I had over 10,000 daily readers and had positioned myself as a powerful voice in the world of competitive gaming.

2008

I attended one of the top journalism schools in the country, the University of Missouri, for my freshman year of college. There, my professor addressed our lecture hall of 500 students with a powerful statement: "The world of blogging is a trend and will never be a credible source of writing." As an already established blogger, I disagreed, and transferred schools the next year.

2012

I graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a degree in Fiction writing. My first internship was at a digital marketing agency downtown Chicago, and here I was introduced to the idea of writing and building an audience on social media.

2013

I was knee-deep in the world of bodybuilding. I had been lifting for years, and decided to start micro-blogging on Instagram sharing daily workouts and nutritional advice. In less than a year, I built an audience of 15,000 followers, and became a blogger and influencer for a variety of publications and fitness brands.

2014

I began writing on a platform called Quora. I answered questions relating to all of my interests: gaming, fitness, music, digital marketing, and writing. In less than 3 months, I had my first answer go viral, landing on the front page of Reddit. That answer has since accumulated over 1.1M views. A month later, I had my first Quora answer republished by a major publication, Inc Magazine

2015

I became a Top Writer on Quora and had different Quora answers republished by major publications every single week for almost 6 months straight. Publications included: TIME, Forbes, Fortune, The Huffington Post, Business Insider, Entrepreneur, Observer, Slate, Apple News, and more. I began to establish myself as a thought leader in the world of content writing and personal branding, explaining to people the ins and outs of expressing their unique voice and building an audience online—something I had already done for myself in both the gaming and the fitness industries.

2016

So much of my content had been republished by Inc Magazine that I was given a daily column. Over the next two and a half years, I became one of their most-popular columnists—authoring over 200 columns and bringing in several million views for the publication.

I also published my first book, a memoir called Confessions of a Teenage Gamer, detailing what it was like growing up undiagnosed with Celiac Disease and at the same time becoming a nationally recognized gamer. The book was self-published and debuted on Amazon reaching #2 in two separate categories. The book has since gone on to sell copies in over 30 countries around the world.

2017

I decided to take everything I had learned about writing online, and this idea of becoming a thought leader on the Internet, and offer it as a service to serial entrepreneurs, CEOs, and successful business owners. In 2017, I launched Digital Press, a ghostwriting agency specializing in writing high-performing thought leadership content. 18 months later, we had scaled that business to 20 full-time employees, 80+ concurrent clients around the world, and 7-figures in annual revenue.

2020

After three years of building Digital Press, my co-founder and I realized that ghostwriting is a boutique business and not the right type of business to scale. So, we scaled back down, I became more selective about the clients I worked with as a Premium Ghostwriter.

I also published my second book, The Art & Business of Online Writing. The book launched at #1 in multiple categories on Amazon its first day, and went on to become a must-read bestseller in the world of Digital Writing.

2021

With the success of my second book, I saw various opportunities to leverage both my 10+ years of digital writing knowledge as well as my newly gained entrepreneurial skills.

First, I joined forces with Dickie Bush to co-create the fastest-growing digital writing community on the Internet, Ship 30 for 30. This program is based on everything I have learned over the past decade, and is dedicated to helping people start writing online. And in less than a year, Ship 30 for 30 scaled to several thousand students & 7 figures in revenue.

Second, I co-created a paid newsletter with Christopher Lochhead and Eddie Yoon called Category Pirates, specifically with the goal of educating entrepreneurs, executives, investors, marketers, and creators on Category Design—and how to see the world through a “category lens.” In less than 6 months, Category Pirates became one of the Top 10 most-read paid newsletters in Substack’s business category.

2022

Ship 30 for 30 reached multiple 7 figure territory. We began building a SaaS platform providing digital writers with templates and tools, called Typeshare. And our collective social audiences exceeded 500,000 followers across Twitter & LinkedIn, and over 100,000 email subscribers.

2023

We launched our Premium Ghostwriting Academy, training ghostwriters on how to package & price their services to attract high-ticket clients. This business became a 7 figure program in less than 90 days.

I also published my second book in the series: The Art & Business of Ghostwriting. And launched my first “evergreen book” on Substack, The Art & Business of Digital Writing.

And, to close the chapter, I exited Category Pirates as a business—so that I could continue to focus full-time on building Ship 30 for 30’s ecosystem of programs.

WHAT DO I DO?

In addition to building writing-related businesses & forever working on my own writing, I am passionate about paying it forward and sharing what I have learned about becoming a 100% independent digital writer & author across various social platforms such as Twitter, YouTube, Medium, and Quora.
